Anime Crusaders Tournament Mode
Trait Mode, Traitless Mode, Crusader teams, and how to climb the weekly leaderboard.
Tournament Mode is Anime Crusaders’ competitive PvE ladder, added in the August 2026 update. It runs in 7-day seasons with weekly resets. There are two distinct formats: Tournament Mode (traits enabled) and Traitless Mode (traits disabled). This page covers both, plus the team-building principles that determine leaderboard rank.
Two formats
Tournament Mode (Trait) enables all unit traits. Crusader trait units jump dramatically in value because the 300% damage bonus applies on top of base stats. Speedcart and Ai (Idol) are near-mandatory support picks because they efficiently activate Crusader synergy. King (Mythic) anchors the meta as the single strongest Crusader-capable carry.
Traitless Mode disables all traits entirely. Raw base stats and positioning determine strength. Akuzo vs Renkuro dominates this ladder because it has the highest base DPS of any Hill unit. Sun Woo (System) remains strong as a Ground anchor. The Traitless leaderboard is more accessible to accounts without rare trait combinations.
Season structure
Each season lasts 7 days. At season end, rewards distribute based on your final rank tier:
- Grandmaster — top rank, premium rewards including exclusive tournament units and large Gem bonuses
- Diamond — strong rewards, includes Divine Tokens and Stat Cubes
- Platinum through Bronze — decreasing Gem and token rewards
Rank tiers reset each season. Standing in Grandmaster one season does not carry over; you must climb again.
Crusader trait in Tournament Mode
The Crusader trait (0.1% rarity) is the defining Tournament build. Units with Crusader deal 300% damage, gain 10% range, and 10% cooldown reduction. Only one Crusader unit can be active per game.
Optimal Crusader carriers in Tournament Mode:
- King (Mythic) — Light/Dark element, Crusader synergy, ~0.1% drop rate. The top pick if you own it.
- Sun Woo (System) — Ground carry, consistent shadow-summon DPS. Lower ceiling than King but more accessible.
- Zero (True Emperor) — Hybrid DPS plus team-wide buffs. Works in Crusader setups but functions as a primary carry without Crusader too.
Support stack for Crusader:
- Ai (Idol) — economy unit, enables extended runs
- Speedcart — the most efficient Crusader activator, provides the 300% bonus reliably
- Ai (Idol) + Speedcart together form the base of most Grandmaster Tournament builds
Element System in Infinity Castle
The Infinity Castle mode now uses an element system that affects Tournament scoring:
- Fire beats Nature
- Nature beats Water
- Water beats Fire
- Light and Dark are neutral to all three
When a unit hits a weaker element, it gains a 50% damage bonus. In Tournament Mode, element advantage translates directly to higher wave clears and better scores. Check the element type on each unit card before placement.
Element counters in team building:
- Stack one dominant element for your carry to maximize the 50% bonus
- Light/Dark units (like King) bypass the rock-paper-scissors entirely, making them safe tournament picks regardless of element rotation
Weekly climbing strategy
Early season (Days 1-3): Push as many waves as possible to establish a high baseline score. Run Infinite-style economy builds to bank resources.
Mid season (Days 4-5): Shift to carry-focused builds. Lock your Crusader core and spend Divine Tokens rerolling traits on your keeper units.
Late season (Days 6-7): Final push. Check the leaderboard to see what score you need for your target tier. Run the most aggressive build your account can support.
Tournament tokens and rewards
Tournament tokens are a separate currency earned from the Tournament itself (separate from Gems and Divine Rerolls). Spend them in the Tournament shop on Stat Cubes, Evolution materials, and cosmetic items. They do not expire between seasons but reset to zero if you skip a season.
Codes such as TournamentsAreHere! and HeyCrusaders also grant Tournament tokens — redeem these before spending your weekly earnings.
Before you enter
Make sure your placement fundamentals are solid. A well-placed Ai (Idol) and Speedcart outperform a randomly stacked S-tier board. Read the best teams page for Tournament-specific core compositions.
If you are on a budget account, Traitless Mode is the more accessible competitive format. It does not require Crusader or other rare traits — base stats are all that matter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the difference between Tournament Mode and Traitless Mode?
Tournament Mode enables unit traits — Crusader and trait synergies are the meta. Traitless Mode disables all traits, so raw base DPS and positioning determine strength. Different leaderboards, different meta.
How do I activate the Crusader trait?
Place a Crusader-capable unit (King, Sun Woo, Zero) and ensure your support units (Speedcart, Ai Idol) are on the field. Only one Crusader can be active at a time. Speedcart is the most reliable enabler.
What are Tournament tokens?
Separate from Gems and Divine Rerolls. Earned from Tournament play and some codes (TournamentsAreHere!, HeyCrusaders). Spend in the Tournament shop on Stat Cubes, evolution materials, and cosmetics.
Does the element system matter outside Infinity Castle?
The element 50% damage bonus applies primarily in Infinity Castle Tournament runs. For regular Story and Infinite farming, element counters are less relevant than raw unit strength.
Can I compete in Traitless Mode without rare traits?
Yes. Traitless Mode is more accessible because it only cares about base unit stats. Akuzo vs Renkuro and Sun Woo (System) are both strongTraitless carries that do not require any specific trait to dominate.
